It sounds like you might be mistaking System Memory with Hard Drive space….they sound the same…but they are very different….
Your Hard Drive is where all of your files and programs are stored….when you remove programs…the amount of free space on your hard drive will increase….(usually drastically)
System Memory (RAM) is different….and also a little more difficult to increase….you can try disabling any open programs…and programs from starting up with windows….but this will only give you so much….what you need to do is buy more memory for your computer. In order to make sure that you choose the correct memory for your computer you will need to check the specifications of your computer (you can do this through the manufacturer's website usually) and purchase the corresponding RAM….
You may also want to consider upgrading your video card….many Onboard Video cards Share system memory and actually make windows think that there is less RAM in your computer than there actually is….for example….if you have 256 mb ram…but 32 mb is shared…windows sees 224mb ram….
